Researchers from Complex Society Lab (Chile) and Infinitum Humanitarian Systems (USA) publish AI-enhanced urban resilience model in international scientific journal

The Complex Society Lab research group, in collaboration with members of Infinitum Humanitarian Systems, has published in the journal Applied Network Science the article “Harnessing network science for urban resilience: the CASA model’s approach to social and environmental challenges,” introducing the CASA model (Complex Analysis for Socio-environmental Adaptation), an applied complexity tool enhanced with Artificial Intelligence.

The proposed model adopts a network science approach that transforms the core pillars of urban social resilience into interlinked elements. This network structure—built upon global scientific knowledge from the past decade—offers a realistic representation of the relationships among the various social and environmental factors associated with resilience, while also identifying vulnerabilities and opportunities for coordinated intervention.

With its capacity to integrate heterogeneous data and deliver real-time, accurate diagnostics, the CASA model is positioned as a key tool for strategic decision-making in crisis scenarios, territorial planning, and global climate adaptation.
